Scanton

Dear Friends,

We recall with gratitude God’s loving Providence especially for those most in need. Mr. Martin Maloney’s generous heart summoned the Little Sisters of the Poor to Scranton to care for the neediest elderly in 1908. Across the span of 111 years, generations of good hearted, compassionate people of this region have continued to carry out his vision by embracing our mission to the elderly.

We are undoubtedly sad we have withdrawn from Holy Family Residence on December 1, 2019, but our hearts are filled with profound gratitude to you, our benefactors and friends, who have untiringly supported us with your contributions in kind and money. You have also given so generously of your time and talents to make our Residents happy and have assisted the Little Sisters in every way.

Some of you may want to continue to support our mission toward the elderly poor or to request the prayers of the Little Sisters. You may contact us or send your donation to either of the addresses listed below.

Saint Jeanne Jugan, our foundress, had a vision of family that extended far beyond the Little Sisters and Residents. She sought to involve people from all walks of life in the same mission of hospitality. You are, and always will be, very much a part of our family. In the name of all the Little Sisters, especially those who have served in Scranton, I want to assure you that we will always be grateful to you, and remember you in our heartfelt prayers.

The Book of Proverb says: “He who gives to the poor lends to the Lord, He will repay him for his good deeds.” May God reward you a hundredfold for your goodness and kindness.

Gratefully,
Sister Alice Marie, lsp
