The fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and Dinner at Holy Family Residence is much more than a fundraiser. It is an awesome witness to Scranton’s community spirit:
- from our devoted development and communications department’s behind-the-scenes organization, reaching out to sponsors and donors of prizes, to our collecting sisters and helpers doing pick-ups and sorting correspondence;
- from the “standing-room-only” assembly participating in Sunday Mass in our Chapel to begin this Irish shindig with the Faith of our Fathers, to the four celebrants of the Eucharistic, the volunteer organist and bag-pipers who animated the Liturgy;
- from our top-notch activities department who wrapped prizes, set tables and decorated to provide “atmosphere,” to the Crossmolina Irish step dancers freely enlivening the affair;
- from the generous donations of hams and all the trimmings by our benefactors, to our five-star kitchen department whose kindness and competence churned out such savory dishes;
- from the respectful serving and bussing done by students from Holy Cross High School, to the “ready-for-anything” volunteers, UNICO Ladies, Associates and even off-duty staff offering their services at food service, raffles, bake sale, preparation of take-outs, and ultimately staying to clean-up;
- from parking space offered by our IHM neighbors at Marywood University, to the shuttle service assured by AJJs to transport visitors from their cars to our front door;
- from the multitude of outside friends, relatives of former Residents, priests, and religious who came to patronize the event, to our Residents and their families, our employees, vendors, Associates, and other co-workers who came to enjoy the meal and show their support—our annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Holy Family Residence brings us much more than financial aid. It is a wonderful occasion for Scranton to live up to her reputation for her heartwarming small-town spirit!
