Back in October, Father Kelly, our chaplain, dedicated our bird aviary on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. This home for our feather friends, which is stationed on the St. John of God unit, has brought so much joy to all of our Residents and was made possible through the generosity of donors and the funds we raised by hosting “Nunsense II: The Second Coming” last summer.
The birds are quite enjoyable to watch and are always busy building nests and swooping from spot to spot within their cozy home. Recently, our little friends welcomed a little one of their own! We all joyfully anticipated this grand birth, and we are so happy to see our new “Resident” acclimating to the Home.
As I was observing our baby bird and its mama, I couldn’t help but smile as I watched the two interact. She certainly is a good mommy and watches over her little one carefully. Her attentiveness reminded me of a scripture from the gospel of St. Matthew: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life … look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?”
Just as our little mama bird watches over her little one with such love and care, God watches over you. The next time you find yourself bound up in knots worrying about the future, remember this scripture and this photo. Each will bring you peace.
Until Next Time,
Jackie
