As Development Assistant Karen Caruso and I drove around the golf course capturing moments to remember of our golfers enjoying our 11th annual golf tournament, we saw quite a few sites. In our travels, we saw some really great drives by our golfers followed by some birdies and even one or two eagles on the greens. But perhaps one of the biggest surprises (not the biggest – I’ll get to that later) we saw on the links had nothing to do with sinking putts, yet it sure served as a unique hazard for our golfers—geese! Nestled by the pond, were the cutest goslings and hens waddling around and gliding through the water. Thanks to our golfers’ finely-tuned skills, no golf balls landed near the little feathered families, but we were thrilled to catch a few photos of them.
And now, the big surprise. I am pleased to announce that our golf tournament raised over $32,000 which covered the final costs of the patient lifts and standing and raising aids for our Residents. That is just tremendous and it was made possible by the generosity of our sponsors and donors listed here in the event program, as well as the hard work of our dedicated committee chairmen: Bob Blaker, Gene Cosgrove, Chris James, and Patrick J. Sheridan; and committee members: Debbi Bean, Joan Blaker, Lisa Blaker, Charlie Butler, Karen Caruso, Atty. Jim Conaboy, Atty. Kevin Conaboy, Theresa Durkin, Jackie Galvin, Tracy Genell, MaryCarol Kanton, Pete Kanton, Ann Kwak, Bill McDonough, Atty. Jerry Musheno, Carole Paswinski, Kim Simchak, Janet Skibinski, Tim Speicher, and Dave Tressler.
We also are grateful to WNEP-TV 16 for producing a wonderful commercial for us and to WNEP chief meteorologist Kurt Aaron, investigative reporter Dave Bohman, and sports anchor Jim Coles for playing in the tournament. We would also like to thank Lamar Advertising for donating billboard space and Matt Burne Honda for providing a new car for our hole in one contest.
Before I wrap this entry up, I also would like to express our condolences to the family of the late Leo Higgins. Leo was a valuable member of our committee who passed away very suddenly on May 23. While his absence was surely felt at meetings and at the tournament, we know he played a big role from his special place in heaven to make this important fundraiser a success. God bless you Leo! We miss you!
Until Next Time,
Jackie
